I found a small exploded seed pod on the bed of a trail while hiking through Peng Chau island in southern China. As I held the tiny container I realized that I needed to make this form. It was the first moment of clarity I had regarding my work, and what caused me to return to sculpture making.
I moved to Hong Kong for a challenge, and in that found an awareness of self and place and consciousness. I became charged by form and color and pattern. Moments grew into strikingly present experiences, and ideas of distance and movement and time became much more significant and tangible. It marks the origin of the projects I am currently exploring, and the juncture between my life and work.

When I left Hong Kong my sense of curiosity had never been more present, so I decided to move to Italy to carve marble. While there I made my first sculpture in almost two years, and discovered that the alchemy of exploration doesn't come from the newness of a place, but from the awareness of being in that place.

I firmly believe that exposure to new ways of life and thinking lead to greater understanding of self, and in turn others. I am inspired by what occurs organically through the world, and feel that being aware of our movements through and relationship to a place significantly affects how we relate to one another.
