This piece is an experiment in texture and pattern, and the concept of growth. There is a major difference between positive and negative growth, the shift hinging on what is doing the growing and what is being grown upon. Some forms of life rely on parasitism for survival, while for others it signifies the beginning of the end. |

| While living in China I had become supremely conscious of where my hands and feet had been during the course of a day. I would look at the hands touching rails on the subway, the fingers deftly keying in pin numbers at the ATM, and the phlegm that would grace the soles of my shoes. I was watching these interactions every second of every day, in awe of this world that thrives before (and in and on) our very eyes. This piece was inspired by a seed pod I found on Peng Chau island in southern China. I was fascinated by how it looked so virus like, and how much scale factored into what this form is and means to the world. |
